Your lips demand the same attention and exfoliating the lips is equally important. Be it cold weather, licking your lips, sun damage or spicy food, it can result in chapped lips that tend to flake and peel your skin. A lip scrub helps to slough off dry, dead skin and make your lips supple, rosier and healthier. 5 DIY Exfoliating Lip Scrubs for Soft Lips

1. Honey + Coconut Oil + Brown Sugar Lip Scrub

Honey has natural healing properties. Brown sugar has exfoliating properties and helps in peeling the dead skin, making your lips appear smoother and softer. Coconut oil has a moisturizing effect and acts as an emollient. 

Honey + Coconut Oil + Brown Sugar Lip Scrub

You will need:

  • Honey- 1 tablespoon 
  • Brown Sugar- 2 tablespoons
  • Coconut oil- few drops 
  • ½ tablespoon of lukewarm water. 

How to make and use:

  • Take 2 tablespoons of brown sugar in a bowl and add 1 tablespoon of honey to it. Mix it. 
  • Add ½ tablespoon of water and a few drops of coconut oil to the mixture and mix all the ingredients well. 
  • Apply this lip scrub on your lips and gently rub it in circular motions for 2-3 minutes. 

2. Coffee + Olive Oil + Peppermint Oil Lip Scrub 

Coffee helps in rejuvenating your lips making them flush with color and life. It is a natural exfoliator. The goodness of olive oil and peppermint oil will help in moisturizing and hydrating your lips. 

2. Coffee + Olive Oil + Peppermint Oil Lip Scrub

You will need:

  • Grounded coffee powder- 2 tablespoons 
  • Olive oil- ½ tablespoon 
  • Peppermint oil- few drops 
  • Lukewarm water- ½ tablespoon 

How to make and use:

  • Take 2 tablespoons of coarse coffee powder and add ½ tablespoon of olive oil to it. 
  • Add a few drops of peppermint oil and ½ tablespoon of lukewarm water if needed to get desired consistency. 
  • Mix all the ingredients thoroughly and rub it onto your lips for a few minutes. 
  • Rinse your lips with water.

3. Green Tea + Sugar + Lemon essential oil Lip Scrub

Regular sugar helps to slough off dead skin cells from your lips. Powdered green tea acts as a natural exfoliator. The tannin present in green tea treats the chapped lips and increases the moisture in the lips. Lemon essential oil is refreshing and has an uplifting scent.

You will need:

  • Green tea powder – 1 tablespoon 
  • Regular sugar- 1 tablespoon 
  • Lemon essential oil – ½ tablespoon 

How to make and use:

  • Mix 1 tablespoon of green tea powder and regular sugar in a bowl. 
  • Add ½ tablespoon of lemon essential oil to this mixture. 
  • Mix all the ingredients. Add a few drops of water to adjust the consistency. 
  • Rub the scrub on your lips in a circular motion and rinse your lips with water. 

4. Oatmeal + Orange peel + Honey Lip Scrub

Oatmeal is a great all-natural exfoliator and is naturally soothing to the troubled lips. Orange peel powder contains vitamin C which helps with hyperpigmentation, dryness and dead skin. It also adds great fragrance to the scrub! Honey has a natural humectant that helps in hydrating the lips. 

4. Oatmeal + Orange peel + Honey Lip Scrub

You will need:

  • Oatmeal powder – 1 tablespoon 
  • Orange peel powder – 1 tablespoon 
  • Honey- ½ tablespoon 

How to make and use:

  • Take 1 tablespoon of oatmeal powder in a bowl and add 1 tablespoon of orange peel powder to it. 
  • Add ½ tablespoon of honey to the above concoction and mix all the ingredients well. 
  • Add a few drops of water if necessary. 
  • Rub this scrub on your lips for 2-3 minutes. 
  • Rinse your lips with lukewarm water. 

5. Cocoa + Cinnamon + Almond oil Lip Scrub

Cocoa powder helps in moisturizing your lips deeply and removes tan. Cinnamon is a natural lip-plumper which acts as a natural exfoliator to achieve soft and smooth lips instantly. Almond oil helps in nourishing your lips. 

You will need:

  • Cocoa powder- 1 tablespoon 
  • Cinnamon powder- 1 tablespoon 
  • Almond oil- ½ tablespoon 

How to make and use:

  • Mix 1 tablespoon of cocoa powder and 1 tablespoon of cinnamon powder in a bowl.
  • Add ½ tablespoon of almond oil to this mixture. 
  • Add a few drops of water and mix it thoroughly. 
  • Rub the scrub on your lips in a circular motion. Wash them with water afterward. 

How often should you use a Lip Scrub?

Generally, it is best to use a lip scrub 3 times a week to get the best results. But the use of lip scrubs depends on your skin. 

If you have chapped lips then scrubbing it thrice in a week is recommended. But if your lips are dry and sensitive exfoliating it once or twice maybe a better option. 

If you have any skin conditions it is best to consult a dermatologist before using any of the lip scrubs.
